Let’s create something beautiful!
The Speak Their Name, Memorial Quilt Project has been commissioned by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership to commemorate those lost to suicide & recognise those bereaved and affected by suicide in the Greater Manchester area.
Rebecca is a mum bereaved by suicide. She knew how essential crafting had been to her own mental well being following the death of her daughter and she wanted to share some of those skills she had learnt along the way. Originally the idea was to hold workshops across the region where people who had lost a loved one to suicide could get together to make a square in that person’s memory, in the process learning a new skill and accessing peer support from other’s in a similar position. Now the plans to have local community meetings have had to change and the community has moved on-line! On the Facebook page, Speak Their Name, Rebecca will be posting a video each week to share some ideas to help you create your own quilt square. Beginners are very welcome!
In the summer months all of the squares made will be sewn together into one big quilt to remember loved ones lost to suicide and raise awareness of suicide bereavement.
